Top 4 day trips you can take when staying in Sydney

When staying in one of the hotels or serviced apartments Sydney has to offer, right in the heart of the city, you can practically walk to every major attraction. If you do however decide to venture out for the day, there are lots of great places to visit just outside the city. Here are our top picks:

  • Bondi and/or Coogee Beach- Just a short bus trip from Sydney’s centre is two of the world’s top rated beaches. An Australian icon and tourist attraction, Bondi Beach in particular is easily one of the most well-known and loved beaches in the world.

On a lovely sunny day, there is nothing like taking a trip to Bondi and enjoying the beach and surrounds. It has a host of great cafes and pubs too, perfect for lunch or evening meals. For the best vantage point to view the beach, check out Bondi Icebergs. It’s sure to impress.

  • The Blue Mountains- Although a much longer trip than Bondi Beach, the 90 minute drive or train trip is worth it. Make sure you bring a jumper, as even in Summer it can get cold towards the mountains. The three sisters are just one part of the mountains to take in, and there are many walks and treks for the adventure traveller.

If you are planning a trip to the Blue Mountains just make sure you leave early in the morning to allow for a full day to take in the sites.

  • Hunter Valley- Home to some magnificent vineyards just north of Sydney is the Hunter Valley. It is a 1.5-2.5 hour drive from Sydney, but if you haven’t hired a car, there are many wine bus tours you can book which will take you there.

Nothing can be more relaxing than wine tasting and an outdoor lunch amongst luscious greenery and acres of grape trees. Another great day trip that you’re sure to love. A perfect outing for a couple having a romantic holiday in Sydney.

  • When you’re so close to Australia’s capital, it’s a shame not to visit, especially if you have children. There are so many great sites for them to see and fun activities they can enjoy. It will take approximately 3-3.5 hours to drive to Canberra, but once again if you have not hired a car, there are heaps of great bus tour deals you can get from Sydney which will take you there and back.

With the AIS, The Mint and Parliament House, it’s a great place to take the kids.

If you are staying in Sydney’s CBD for a good deal of time these day trips are well worth the bus ride/drive. There are many tours you can book that will take you to all of the destinations and back, from the doorsteps of most Sydney Apartments located in the heart of the city. I hope we’ve given you some inspiration on some great day trips you can take when you are next staying in Sydney.
